VISITING SERBIA TRAVEL GUIDE

serbia travel guide

I visited Serbia in September 2023 and it blew me away. I had zero expectations of Serbia, nor had it ever been on my list. But since my good friend from work lives there and there are direct flights from Israel, she finally convinced me to come visit! It was amazing. Beautiful, untouched architecture, little to no tourists, cute boutique hotels, insane nightlife and AMAZING food (I am not joking). What To Expect When Visiting Serbia

Like I said above, Serbia was never on my bucket list or radar at all. But Belgrade really did blow me away and I LOVED it. I will say that I got off to a rough start as my flight to get there was 3 hours delayed and then upon arrival (they don’t have Ubers) trying to get a cab in English was very hard as they only took cash! Besides the language barrier and needing cash, my trip was amazing. I spent 3 days in Belgrade and wish I spent longer! I highly recommend going on holiday to Belgrade!

This is not a recommendation to buy travel insurance.

Currency

The Serbian Dinar. I recommend exchanging at the airport because you will need cash to get a cab. Only very few cabs take cards.

Language

Serbian. Many people (like taxi drivers) do not speak English. Learning curve but I managed!

Everything what to do in Belgrade

  • Walk along the main street with beautiful architecture of Knez Mihailova. It is a pedestrian street with tons of cafes and shops and just beautiful! It is also one of the oldest streets in Belgrade.
  • See the Belgrade Fortress (Kalemgdan Fortress). You can also watch sunset from here1
  • Spend a night eating and drinking on the river bank restaurants/nightclubs on the Sava (we ate at Ambar which was all you could eat traditional Serbian food and it was AMAZING).
  • Eat at one of the floating restaurants on the other side of the Sava river (I LOVED Suvenir). It’s totally different area and experience than on the Barges

Where to stay in Belgrade Serbia – Best Belgrade hotel!

  • I HIGHLY recommend Maison Royale hotel on Knez Mihailova street. The hotel was clean, rooms were big and it was on the main street and in the middle of everything! The staff was incredibly nice and spoke perfect English. They even had their own private driver for airport drop-off. If I came back to Belgrade I would stay there again in a second. Book Maison Royale here!
