I visited Morocco in June 2022, my first real & planned trip since Covid, and also 3 months delayed after getting Covid before our original trip date in March 2022. As of May 2022, Morocco only requires a vaccine pass or a negative PCR to enter the country. Morocco has been on my bucket list for longer than I can remember and I spent hours and hours planning the perfect itinerary, destinations and stops in our Morocco vacation. While we had planned for March weather (ideal), we ended up with June (not so ideal). However, the trip was nothing short of amazing. Our trip to Morocco exceeded my expectations and everything went ALMOST perfectly. Keep reading for what to expect when traveling to Morocco (including safety, female safety, etc), all of the best Morocco travel tips, everything to do on holidays to Morocco, where to stay and what to wear in Morocco.

What To Expect When Visiting Morocco Travel Tips

Morocco has always been a dream of mine and a little bit mysterious. Conservative, unsafe, okay food and cheap are some of the descriptors I had heard to describe people’s trip to Morocco. It always seemed like such an intriguing place to visit and I wanted to do it right. So we set out on a 10 day trip to Morocco covering a lot of the country and it truly debunked all of these myths. I felt incredibly safe in Morocco the entire time as a girl, in every single city and area. The people were some of the nicest I have ever met and truly wanted to get to know you and your story. The food was phenomenal. Yes, it is conservative and it is hot, but you can see how in tune Moroccans are with their traditions. I highly recommend visiting Morocco (and using my Morocco travel tips) as a solo female, with a significant other, or with a group. It is one of the most fascinating places I have ever visited.

The Best Morocco Places To Visit

I worked with the amazing and efficient Desert Luxury Camp to build our Morocco itinerary end-to-end. While I knew everything I wanted to see and where I wanted to go, they helped optimize the itinerary, provided suggestions and had everything planned and booked for us. I would highly recommend working with Desert Luxury Camp with traveling to Morocco. Our itineray was 9 days long and will be written extensively. We landed in Casablanca, drove to Chefchaouen, then 2 days in Fes (you must, must, must stay at Palais Amani during your stay in Fes) , 1 night in the Sahara Desert (a dream!), 1 night in the Skoura Valley and 3 nights in Marrakech. This was definitely enough time to do everything and did not feel rushed but I definitely would have liked one more night to stretch out the time we had in each location a bit longer. This is definitely the minimum amount of time to hit all of these spots on the itinerary – it is A LOT of driving. More on my itinerary coming soon!

Moroccan Currency

The Moroccan Dirham. It is about 10:1 to the US Dollar. There are plenty of ATMs everywhere, a lot of places only take cash but you will find more credit card friendly spots in the main cities. I read on EVERY blog before going that Chefchaouen (the amazing blue city) has zero ATMs and is a cash-only city but that is simply not the case we passed by many ATMs all over the town and restaurants took our cards.

Moroccan Language

Arabic and French! Arabic and French are used almost equally here but we found everyone in the main tourist areas to speak very good English.

Other Morocco Travel Tips

  • MOROCCO PACKING TIPS: For all of my travel/packing essentials I bring on any trip compiled together, head to my influencer page on Amazon here for a complete list or my descriptive carry-on packing guide here! Morocco is a conservative country so it is essential to bring clothes that cover your shoulders and knees out of respect. It is also insanely HOT during the summer. Pack accordingly.
  • Travel Insurance: When visiting Morocco, I highly recommend getting travel insurance. You never know what may happen to your flights, a death/personal emergency in your family, or an accident happening while traveling (think: getting mugged, falling while hiking and spraining your ankle, literally any accident than can happen ANYWHERE!). World Nomads makes it super easy and I never leave for a trip without getting their insurance. Most importantly it’s extremely affordable: get your World Nomads travel insurance before your trip here!
  • DON’T DRINK THE WATER! There is bottled water offered everywhere. Do not drink the tap water at all.
  • There are no Ubers or particularly safe cabs in any of the areas of Morocco, so as mentioned above, I would highly recommend hiring a private driver for your trip if you are going to multiple cities and stops in Morocco. Alternatively, you can rent a car. You can also fly between Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Marrakesh, they all have airports. But if you want to go to the Sahara Desert, you must drive.
